SICKNESS VS. HEALTH
By Rev. Phillip Goldfedder, M.D.

One of the major challenges I faced throughout my career in medicine was trying to understand why many people seem to prefer living with their sicknesses and diseases rather than choosing to live in health and vitality. In such cases their illness has such a strong hold on them that it is as if they view their sickness as a blessing rather than as the curse it actually is. As my healing and deliverance ministry developed, I began to notice this phenomenon much more vividly, so I began to seek revelation from the Lord about this. He showed me many important things.

This all began when I was miraculously healed of incurable, chronic, intractable pain that had lasted more than two years. It was then that I discovered that Jesus is in the healing business and that He can heal us everywhere we hurt. (Remember, He can heal you everywhere you hurt, as well.) It was not easy to admit, but through this experience I learned that medicine does not have all the answers, especially with regard to chronic and terminal diseases.

Jesus, on the other hand, has all the answers. In truth, He—the Great Physician—is the answer, no matter what the problem may be. In the same way that I wondered why people seemed to prefer living with their medical conditions, I began to wonder why so many people ignore Jesus’ healing and deliverance ministry. It is simply beyond my ability to comprehend.

In light of all this, one of my major goals, which could accurately be called a mission, is to help people get “unstuck” from their sicknesses and diseases. They are “stuck” because they have accepted their plight. This is the part that I don’t understand. Why would someone simply accept an unpleasant, painful illness as a part of their lives? This applies to minor aches and pains, as well.

I even know of some cases in which people could return to work in spite of their disabilities if they would just agree to receive proper treatment, including surgery, but they refuse to do so.

Many people seem to rationalize about their situations, and this keeps them “stuck” in their conditions. They don’t understand that their rationalizing can become paralyzing. So many prefer to depend of human reason rather than searching for spiritual solutions. I know many folk who have become “superficial specialists” in rationalizing without realizing that human reason has actually become a god to many.

I’ve encountered some people who go on putting up with their conditions due to their subconscious need to receive attention, sympathy, pity, comfort, and even love because of it. Fortunately, this is not a common situation, but such people need to realize and decide that they do not have to tolerate their impairment or illness any longer. These are the people who have decided that they would rather live with their medical condition even though that’s not what God wants for them. They need to have their minds reprogrammed and renewed so they can find a quality of life that has not been available to them due to their misguided thinking that tells them that they somehow deserve the illness. No one ever deserves to be sick!

If the above description applies to you, I’m sure you realize that your whole life is wrapped up with the stress that comes from doctors’ visits, treatments, therapies, and other approaches. You may have even learned to tolerate your physical challenge. Here I’m using the word “challenge” instead of problem because I believe the word “problem” has the ring of permanence, whereas the word “challenge” implies something that can be overcome, something that is temporary. A problem may result in indifference or depression; a challenge, on the other hand, is something that can be faced, fought, and overcome and can be approached with optimism and hope.

God does not give sickness or illness to the people He created as some sort of punishment. To think that He does so leads one to feelings of guilt and to the erroneous belief that it is God’s will for him or her to be sick.

As a physician, I remember wondering why people came for treatment when they believed it was God’s will for them to be ill. I would ask them, “Why do you want to get rid of this medical condition if you believe God wants you to be sick?” What would the point of that be? Sometimes this belief is accompanied by an attitude that leads the patient to believe that he or she is not worthy to be healed. There is no doubt that fear plays a prominent role is this mind-set and such fear opens the door to demonic spirits.

Sometimes it seems to me that people have gone to what I call “toleration school.” By that I mean that they train themselves to tolerate and accept their illness. I firmly believe that “what you do not hate you will tolerate.” When you tolerate an illness, you are allowing it to continue existing in your body. Of course, health-care providers and medical professionals adopt this attitude and may even unconsciously encourage it, because that is a part of their training, and they may feel that there is nothing more that they can do. This is especially true when the patient has been given a terminal, “no-hope” prognosis.

Actually, I’ve learned that such a prognosis can become a curse in an individual’s life. I’ve seen so many, even terminal cancer patients, who have risen above this pronouncement and have gone on to experience a radical healing through the power of Jesus Christ. Jesus always specializes in hope, regardless of the situation. He wants you to know that your heavenly Father is “the God of all hope.”

Sickness and disease do not have to exist in either your body or your mind. Why? Because Jesus nailed them to the cross when He gave His life for you. By His stripes you are healed. (See Isaiah 53:5.) Instead of giving up and accepting a given prognosis, view it as a challenge that needs to be overcome. See it as something that is interfering with your quality of life, something that you can deal with and defeat. This is such an important key to receiving your healing.

So ask Jesus to help you. Our Alternative Medicine Healing Ministry Inc. provides a way for you to do just that. We want you to avail yourself of our call-and-expect-to-be-healed program. We want you to do this because we know that Jesus is really the only alternative that is available to you, and the good news is that He can (and will) heal you everywhere you hurt. Therefore, if you need help with any medical challenge you are facing, call us (toll-free) and let us know. It will be our privilege to minister healing to you.

I have another goal in mind, also. I have a personal mission to bless health-care providers so they can learn how to lay hands on the sick so that the sick will recover. (See Luke 16:18.) Thank God that the greatest Physician who ever lived is still available, and He makes “house calls.”
